UPDATED: Information for Consumers Impacted by Canada Jetlines Ceasing Operations

UPDATE: On August 20, 2024, Canada Jetlines announced that it has filed a Notice of Intention to Make a Proposal pursuant to the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act.
TICO is in the process of obtaining additional information from the trustee appointed to assist Canada Jetlines in its restructuring process.
On August 15, 2024, Canada Jetlines, a Canadian ultra-low-cost airline, announced that it will temporarily cease operations.
As soon as we have additional information, it will be shared on TICO’s website, including potential eligibility for claims under the Ontario Travel Industry Compensation Fund (Compensation Fund).
For general guidelines about potential eligibility for the Compensation Fund, please see below:
Air only bookings:
- Consumers who purchased airfare only directly from Canada Jetlines or through a travel agency/booking website outside of Ontario are NOT eligible for reimbursement through the Compensation Fund.
- Consumers who purchased airfare only through a TICO registered travel agency or website, and who did not receive the travel services purchased or a refund, may have an eligible claim against the Compensation Fund. More information will be provided as it’s available.
- In the meantime, affected consumers can contact their credit card company and travel insurance provider, if applicable, to seek refunds. These steps will be required should the claims process open for Canada Jetlines against the Compensation Fund.
- If the credit card or travel insurance company denies your refund, please seek a letter from them confirming that a refund will not be provided.
Vacation package bookings:
- UPDATE: TICO has received confirmation that Canada Jetlines Vacations has cancelled all future vacation package bookings (hotel and airfare) and issued refunds to affected consumers. If you had a future package booking with Canada Jetlines Vacations, please monitor your credit card statement for the refund.
