Legal Counsel, Litigation, (6 month contract, possibility of extension)

The Travel Industry Council of Ontario (TICO) is seeking a skilled lawyer to join TICO’s high performing in-house legal team. Reporting to the Director, Litigation, you will be responsible for preparing for and conducting prosecutions under the Travel Industry Act, 2002 before the Ontario Court of Justice and hearings before the Ontario Licence Appeal Tribunal as to registrant eligibility to obtain or hold registration. You will also be called upon to provide support on solicitor matters. 

As the ideal candidate, you have a law degree and are a member of the Law Society of Ontario in good standing, with 1-5 years criminal or quasi-criminal litigation experience. Knowledge of administrative law, practice before administrative tribunals and consumer protection legislation are assets. You have excellent judgement and analytical ability, a pragmatic and clear communication style and superior organization skills. Candidates must have a valid Ontario driver’s licence as travel within Ontario may be required.

Complaints Officer

The Travel Industry Council of Ontario (TICO) is Ontario’s Travel Regulator. TICO is a non-profit organization mandated by the Ontario government to administer and enforce the Travel Industry Act, 2002 that regulates travel retailers and travel wholesalers operating in Ontario.

TICO has a full-time position available for a Complaints Officer. We are looking for an enthusiastic, multi-tasked person that has excellent communication skills, both written and oral and has a background in customer service/relations.  The individual must possess the skill to handle difficult/challenging or irate individuals in a professional manner.  Reporting to the Vice President, Operations the individual will communicate with consumers, registrants and other stakeholders regarding complaints and enquires. Using problem solving skills, the successful candidate will investigate and assess complaints for any breaches of the Travel Industry Act, 2002 and/or the Regulation. 

The successful candidate will have:

  • proven experience (min. 3 years) in customer service/relations and/or a complaint handling including a post-secondary education or equivalent;
  • Knowledge of the Ontario Travel Industry Act, 2002 and Ontario Regulation 26/05 and/or travel industry related experience. TICO Certification an asset.
  • Extremely organized and self-motivated and possess exceptional written and oral skills;
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Outlook and Word and working knowledge of other MS applications and other related software tools;
  • Preference will be given to a fully bilingual candidate;
