Financial & Compliance Inspection
Inspections are conducted in order to ensure ongoing compliance with the Travel Industry Act, 2002 and Ontario Regulation 26/05. TICO operates a risk management programme, which includes two broad types of inspections: Financial Inspections and Compliance Inspections. TICO Inspectors are designated by the Registrar under the authority of the Act.

TICO conducts investigations when it becomes apparent that there may have been a breach of the Travel Industry Act, 2002 and Ontario Regulation 26/05. Investigations can result in charges being laid under the statute. Results of investigations are not a matter of public record, unless they escalate into a prosecution and charges are laid. The Licence Appeal Tribunal ("LAT") is an independent adjudicative tribunal created under the Licence Appeal Tribunal Act, 1999 to hear appeals and render decisions respecting compensation claims and licensing activities regulated by various administrative agencies, including TICO. If an Ontario-registered travel retailer and/or travel wholesaler no longer wish to remain in business, they may voluntarily terminate their TICO registration or allow their TICO registration to expire. Access the latest list of companies that are no longer registered with TICO and can no longer sell travel services in Ontario. In some cases, a closure may result in claims against the Compensation Fund.

If an Ontario registered travel retailer or travel wholesaler contravenes the legislation or the terms of their registration, TICO may propose to revoke their registration. Consumers should not purchase travel services from any travel retailer or travel wholesaler that is not registered with TICO. Consumers should not purchase travel services from any travel retailer or travel wholesaler while their registration with TICO is suspended.
