Mississauga, ONT. – After being charged by the Travel Industry Council of Ontario (TICO), 2867668 Ontario Inc., operating as Araka Management, pleaded guilty to one count of operating as a travel agent without being registered.

Priyanthan Gopalapillai also pleaded guilty to one count of operating as a travel agent without being registered and one count of being an Officer and Director of a corporation and failing to take reasonable care to prevent the corporation from committing an offence.

2867668 Ontario Inc., operating as Araka Management, was fined $6,250 inclusive of a victim surcharge. Priyanthan Gopalapillai received a suspended sentence. 2867668 Ontario Inc., operating as Araka Management, and Priyanthan Gopalapillai were each sentenced to a two-year probation.

It was found that 2867668 Ontario Inc., operating as Araka Management, and Priyanthan Gopalapillai sold travel without TICO registration, specializing in short-term accommodation and cottage rentals in Ontario

TICO prosecutes unregistered companies and individuals to maintain a level playing field and the integrity of Ontario’s travel marketplace to ensure consumers are confident purchasing travel from registered professionals.
