March 13, 2024 - TICO Board approves 13 claims against the Ontario Travel Industry Compensation Fund
Mississauga, ONT. – On February 27, 2024, the Travel Industry Council of Ontario’s (TICO’s) Board of Directors approved 13 claims against the Ontario Travel Industry Compensation Fund totalling $74,304 to assist 17 consumers who did not receive the travel services for which they had paid.
The approved Ontario Travel Industry Compensation Fund claims are as follows:
- Crystal Cruises
1 claim to assist 2 consumers, totalling $1,304 - Holy Destinations Travel
12 claims to assist 15 consumers, totalling $73,000
In addition, the following claims were denied:
- The 5700 Travel
One claim was denied as it was received beyond the filing deadline date.
- Holy Destinations Travel
Eight claims were denied as they did not contain sufficient documentation in order to substantiate the claims.
The Ontario Travel Industry Compensation Fund is wholly-financed by the industry to protect consumers who do not receive the travel services for which they paid, due to the insolvency or bankruptcy of an Ontario-registered travel agent or travel wholesaler or due to the cessation of an end supplier airline or cruise line. The Fund only covers consumers who have booked through an Ontario-registered travel agent. The Fund is administered by the Travel Industry Council of Ontario, a not-for-profit corporation.
