Mississauga, ONT. – After being charged by TICO, Pure Yoga Ottawa pleaded guilty to one count of operating as a travel agent without registration, contrary to section 4(1) of the Travel Industry Act, 2002.

In an Agreed Statement of Facts, it was agreed that between May 1, 2018 and October 30, 2019, Pure Yoga Ottawa Inc. held itself out as available to sell yoga retreats to Ontario consumers to destinations that included Prince Edward Island and Costa Rica, with accommodations included. Pure Yoga Ottawa Inc. operates yoga studios in Ottawa and Toronto.

TICO had not received consumer complaints relating to Pure Yoga Ottawa, however by selling accommodations as part of their yoga retreat packages, their activities fell under the jurisdiction of Ontario’s travel consumer protection law, the Travel Industry Act, 2002.

Additional charges in this matter against an individual and corporation have been withdrawn.

The Court ordered Pure Yoga Ottawa to pay a fine of $5,000, including a surcharge, within 90 days.

Formed in 1997, TICO is a not-for-profit corporation wholly financed by Ontario-registered travel agents and wholesalers.
