Canadianfares Inc. / www.canadianfares.com in Scarborough, Ontario voluntarily terminated its Ontario Travel Industry Act, 2002 registration to do business as a travel retailer effective June 15, 2018.

Consumers with bookings:

Consumers who purchased travel services from the travel agency or its website www.canadianfares.com and who are in possession of their airline tickets are asked to contact the airline(s) involved to confirm their travel arrangements. This includes any consumers who commenced their travel services prior to the failure of the travel agency and who may still be in destination.

Standard Claims

Consumers who have not yet travelled:

Consumers with future departures who purchased their travel services directly from the travel agency or its website and do not have confirmed bookings: Consumers affected by the closure and who will not be receiving their future travel services may request a claim form from TICO against the Ontario Travel Compensation Fund. Trip Completion Claims

Consumers who commenced their travel services prior to June 15, 2018:

Consumers who incurred expenses in destination (transportation, accommodation and meals) to complete their travel plans due to travel services not provided as the result of the closure of Canadianfares Inc. / www.canadianfares.com may have an eligible Trip Completion Claim against the Travel Compensation Fund.  

Please note that there is a legislated 6 month claim filing deadline for claims. The filing deadline to file a claim in relation to the closure of Canadianfares Inc./ www.canadianfares.com is December 17, 2018.

Filing a claim against the Ontario Travel Industry Compensation Fund:
Please note the claim filing deadline listed above. Claims received at TICO beyond the filing deadline dates will not be valid. Therefore, it is important to submit your claim prior to the filing deadline.


Please be advised that the legislation requires claimants to exhaust all other possible remedies for reimbursement as part of the claims process.   Therefore claimants who paid by credit card for the travel services not provided are required to contact their credit card company and dispute the charge and request a refund (credit / reversal of the charge on their account).  If, for some reason, your credit card company refuses to provide you with a credit refund, you will be required to obtain a letter from the credit card company stating that a credit refund will not be provided.  The letter from the credit card company will be required to be submitted with your claim against the Compensation Fund.


Should you not be able to obtain a chargeback (refund) from your credit card company or obtain all the documentation required in order to substantiate your claim in a timely manner, please submit your claim to ensure your claim is received at TICO prior to the deadline date. Any additional documentation that is required to complete the claim can be sent to TICO when it is obtained.
